Pandit Raghunath Smriti Mahavidyalaya is a Post Graduate as well as Undergraduate college under Bankura University which is the torch bearer of education in the red-soiled, rugged land of Jangal-Mahal. This renowned institute was established in 1986 by the Govt. of West Bengal and named after legendary Santhali scholar and educationist Pandit Raghunath Murmu who invented the ˜Alchiki Script for the Santali Language. The institute is continuing its legacy of education for more than three decades. This college is situated in rustic country area and provides quality education to the socially and economically backward students of this area, a large number of whom belong the Schedule Casts and Schedule Tribes category. The College is located at Baragari village near Pirolgari More (also known as P More; 50 km. away from Bankura Town) which is on the Bankura Jhargram State Highway on the South Western border of Bankura District. This college is in Sarenga block of Bankura district in West Bengal. The coordinate location of the college is 22ï¹¾52˜42.83˜˜N and 87ï¹¾00˜09.70˜˜E. From the session 2017-18 the college came under Bankura University. Previously it was affiliated to the University of Burdwan. The Institute is also registered with UGC under section 2F and 12D of the UGC Act. The college is accredited B+ in the year 2017 by The NATIONAL ASSESSMENT AND ACCREDITATION COUNCIL (NAAC).
The college has lustrous 10.88 acres of green campus with 79,800 square feet build up area, spread with several academic and administrative buildings. The teaching-learning and all round development of the students are the main focus of the faculty and staff members of the institute. The college is equipped with numerous support service and global collaborations. Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) actively supports and helps P.R.M.S. Mahavidyalaya to evolve with the contemporary development and set its strong foothold in the economic and socio cultural development of this region. The Institute has introduced several modern subjects like Geo-informatics, Rural Development and Planning, Forestry, Horticulture and Defense Studies for students which significantly changed the perspective of people and students of this area and established a benchmark in higher education. The institute has spread the light of higher education into the socio and economically underprivileged background of ˜Jungle Mahal.
